A recent video is causing quite the debate on social media for all the wrong reasons.
In the video that has now gone viral across South Africa on Twitter and Facebook, a correctional services officer at St Albans Correctional Centre in the Eastern Cape can be seen being woken by his superior while taking a nap on a chair.
The clip starts off with the officer slumped over on his chair and a jacket wrapped over him. Another official believed to be his senior walks into the room to wake him up only to discover the officer is intoxicated.
The ‘drunk cop’ refers to his senior as “Meneer” and states he is fine, asked if he is fit for duty the officer continues to respond that he is fine.
Things quickly go from bad to worse when the officer begins to leave.
Where is the firearm, where is the firearm, hayibo hayibo…. the official shouts.
Ayi Madoda. He doesn’t even know where his gun is. ? ? ? ? pic.twitter.com/X3BW5qKmXS

Our local Correctional Services Department has since responded and said they are appalled by what they have seen. Adding that a full-scale investigation will be launched.
The Department is deeply appalled and aggrieved by this video,” says spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo
This is definitely not the first time law enforcement has been in the news for slacking on duty, here is a clip of a similar situation that occurred in 2016.
As some have found humor in this is it quite the opposite. Rather showing the lack of discipline in our law enforcement.
Take a watch below.
