A 29-year-old man was severely assaulted by two men who witnessed him attempting to grab the handbag of a woman on Todd Street in Verulam today (Saturday).
At approximately 13:18 members of Reaction Unit South Africa was called out to the scene by the public reporting an assault in progress. Upon arrival, a male was found bleeding excessively from an open wound to his head.
A female explained that the injured man was her husband of nine years and since their separation this year he began harassing her. She was in possession of a protection order. Today he saw her on Todd Street when he approached her and an argument broke out between the two.
During the argument, he grabbed her handbag and attempted to flee when two occupants of a VW Polo stopped to assist the female. The two men began assaulting her husband with their fists. During the altercation, he was also assaulted with a brick on his head. Medics treated the man on the scene for his injury however he declined further medical attention.
Both parties proceeded to the Verulam SAPS to register criminal cases against one another.
